Shelling out for college can leave you in a pile of debt by the time you graduate. And there are plenty of students who would love to go to college, but simply don’t have the resources and don’t want to spend the rest of their lives paying off student loans. For those students, help is at hand. With programs like the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program, students across the country are able to head to college when they otherwise might not be able to.
This year, the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program, which is funded by the General Motors Foundation, provided $4.2 million worth of scholarships to 1,100 students who want to work in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields (STEM). Jobs in these fields are expected to grow by 17 percent by 2018, so it’s important to have qualified applicants for these jobs. The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program places a strong emphasis on awarding students that excel in the classroom, and those who frequently give back to their communities; as well as minorities and women. Buick also recognizes military veterans, first-generation college students, and military dependents.
Since its inception in 2011, the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program has awarded almost $16.5 million in scholarships to approximately 3,300 students. Gjovik Auto commends the efforts of Buick and GM in helping educate America’s young people, and is proud to be part of such a giving company!
