Jay Leno, George W. Bush, Anonymous Bidders and a ’57 Buick Give Back to Veterans

Most of the news that came out of the recent Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance auto auction was about $38 million Ferraris and other big ticket items. But Road & Track reported on something a bit more heartwarming that also happened at this year’s auction. It involved comedian Jay Leno, former president George W. Bush, some unnamed bidders, and a vintage 1957 Buick Caballero Estate Wagon.

The ’57 Buick station wagon, which was being auctioned by David Gooding, was only anticipated to sell for somewhere in the range of $100,000-$125,000. Jay Leno’s Big Dog Garage had restored the vehicle at no cost to benefit the George W. Bush Military Service Initiative, a charity which helps post-9/11 veterans transition back to civilian life.

The Buick, which was also autographed by the former president, was auctioned for an incredible $300,000. Then, to everyone’s shock, the Buick’s buyer went up to the stage and donated the car back to Gooding. The auditorium “erupted into a two-minute standing ovation.”

The car was then resold, this time to the original runner-up bidder, for a whopping $280,000. This prompted a second standing ovation.

The classic 1957 Buick Caballero wagon raised $580,000 in total for U.S. veterans, after being expected to sell for just one-fifth of that amount!

This is one case in which car buyers did the right thing by overpaying for a vehicle. Of course, you will never have to worry about overpaying here at Gjovik Auto!

Consumer Reports Recommends Buick Over BMW and Benz

USA Today is noting that Consumer Reports, America’s premier consumer advocacy publication, has recommended the updated 2014 Buick Regal over its pricier foreign competitors.

The Buick earned a “recommended” rating from Consumer Reports and scored 83 points out of a possible 100. That puts it in the same rating category as luxury cars from Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW. The big difference, though, is that the Buick is by far the least expensive.

“Regal beat the Volvo S60 in a head-to-head road test,” wrote Consumer Reports. “Ultimately, the Regal wound up finishing just one point shy of the class-leading BMW 328i and tied the Mercedes-Benz C250 for second place in the organization’s overall ratings of upscale sport sedans – while costing thousands less.”

Over $8,700 less, to be exact. That’s the price difference between the Buick Regal Premium 2-liter, 4-cylinder turbo, front wheel drive, sports sedan and the significantly costlier BMW 328i, rear wheel drive model – despite the fact that both cars scored almost identical ratings.

The magazine’s director of automotive testing, Jake Fisher, says, “The Regal is a thoroughly developed and satisfying midsized sports sedan that’s more reminiscent of a German sports car than the softly sprung luxo-barges that Buick was once known for.” To experience the luxury and value of a new and improved Buick for yourself, stop by Gjovik Auto today.

Buick Offers Conveniences with Apple Siri Eyes Free

In a world that seems to revolve around our electronics, the need for drivers to stay connected while on the road is consistently becoming a contributing factor when purchasing a car. To help their customers stay connected without distraction, Buick has made the decision to offer standard Apple Siri Eyes Free and Text Message Alerts in every 2015 Buick model.

“People have become accustomed to having their mobile devices with them wherever they go, and that includes their vehicles,” said Roger McCormack, Buick product director. “With standard technologies like Siri Eyes Free and Text Message Alerts, Buick provides drivers with a convenient and safe way to stay in touch while on the road.”

As part of Siri Eyes Free, customers can ask Siri to call people, select and play music, hear and compose text messages, and get directions, along with other voice-controlled features. This allows drivers to keep their phones away and their eyes on the road.

Along with the standard Siri Eyes Free, most 2015 models will also come standard with a built-in wi-fi hotspot, powered by OnStar with 4G LTE. To see the connectivity of 2015 Buicks first hand, stop in to Gjovik Auto today.

Chevrolet Lands Premier Sponsorship Placement on New Manchester United Jersey

The bowtie has landed a premier advertising placement on the new Manchester United jersey, which will be worn during the team’s 2014-15 season. If you’re a Manchester United fan, Chevy invites you to take pictures of yourself wearing this new shirt and upload it to www.chevroletfc.com or share it on social media to spread the word.

“Manchester United has more than 659 million supporters around the world, and we want them to know that we march side by side with them,” Tim Mahoney, chief marketing officer for Global Chevrolet, said. “We wanted to celebrate this new shirt with Manchester United supporters in an historic way because they deserve to be part of this important moment in club history.”

To that end, Chevy released a new video that “pays homage to the history of iconic Manchester United shirts,” honoring the past while also celebrating the present and looking forward to sharing the future with Manchester United. We may have had to stop rooting for the U.S. men’s soccer team too early, but at least here at Gjovik Auto, we now have our very own soccer team to cheer for again.
