This past quarter, GM third quarter global sales were the best since back in 1980. That’s right—the best July to September sales in 34 years, just as big hair, leg warmers, and blue eye shadow were becoming all the rage.
The company’s various brands performed well in their designated markets with the U.S. and China – the two largest markets – reporting sales growth of 8 and 12 percent, respectively.
“GM delivered its best third quarter global sales in 34 years thanks to solid growth in the United States and China, and steady improvement in Opel’s market share,” said Mary Barra, General Motors CEO. “We have launches now underway, including the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon in North America, the Opel/Vauxhall Corsa in Europe, and the Buick Envision and Cadillac ATS-L in China, that will keep our momentum going.”
During the third quarter, nearly 2.5 million vehicles were sold around the world, bringing the year-to-date total up to 7,371,743 units.
As GM continues the trend of record-breaking sales, we at Gjovik Auto can’t wait to see what the final sales total will be for the year. At this rate, it will be close to 10 million vehicles. Wow!
Is one of those 10 million your new vehicle?
Buick has hinted that the Envision compact crossover could make its way to the United States sometime in 2015. The American version of the Envision is anticipated to have the option of a mild hybrid system along with a traditional gas engine. The mild hybrid system will turn the vehicle’s engine off whenever the car is coasting, applying the brakes, or not in motion, and then restart when accelerating.
There has not been an official confirmation of the Envision coming to America, but there is no reason why Buick would not introduce the crossover to the U.S. market. The Envision would be joining one of the largest growing car segments in the country. Car Scoops reports that a Buick spokesperson has “acknowledged that the company is currently looking at the possibility of bringing the Envision to the US market. If it arrives in the United States, the Envision should be offered with front- and all-wheel drive versions, while power would come from a four-cylinder engine.” The Envision would be up against other SUVs like the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, and the Honda CR-V. Hopefully we will see the Envision compact crossover in 2015 as predicted!

2014 has been especially kind to GMC. With September ending, the brand saw its seventh consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. GMC September sales were the best since 2008, with a 28 percent jump in sales when compared with September 2013.
Leading the sales were the 2015 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, which saw a combined sales increase of 76 percent year-over-year and the models’ seventh consecutive month of sales increases.
Another successful model was the GMC Sierra with a sales jump of 20 percent. The 2500HD and 3500HD models are growing in sales, with 27 percent of total Sierra sales volume in September represented by these models.
“GMC’s growth in September hinged on offering distinctive style and sophistication in a number of packages, allowing a wide array of customers to find the one that best fits their lifestyle,” said Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president, Buick and GMC, in a statement. “Expanding our pickup portfolio, especially with the new Canyon, allows GMC to further expand its horizons and reach new customers.”
