Turns out, Chevrolet had more than just its official displays in mind at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit earlier this month, when the brand stealthily revealed what might be the first image of the next-generation Camaro.

2016 Chevrolet Camaro Teaser

Naturally, Chevrolet held a press conference at the event, where the automaker aired a slideshow with five new models to be launched this year. Among the images was a heavily silhouetted vehicle, with Camaro-reminiscent shape. Was this a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro teaser?

This model is the sixth generation of the Camaro, a muscle car that has been a staple in the Chevrolet catalog since it premiered in 1968. Hopefully a clear, official picture of the new Camaro will be released soon. Until then, all we really know about the vehicle is that it will get its debut sometime this year.

Buick Avenir Concept: A Peek Into The Future

The future of Buick comes in the form of the Buick Avenir concept. A deeper look at the Avenir gives the viewer the sensation that Buick engineers were having fun and pushing the limits of their current design potential. Pushing so hard in fact that they pushed a little into the future.  This could be why they named it Avenir in the first place.  It means “future” in French.

If the Avenir or anything like it made it into production, it would certainly prove to be the flagship sedan for Buick. The Avenir’s looks alone suggests that. It has a “tapered tail evocative of the old Buick Riviera sporty coupe,” says USA Today. A low-profile combined with 21 inch wheels lend the Avenir an appealingly sporty appearance.

Everything about what’s under the hood screams flagship. The Buick Avenir concept is powered by a V6 with direct-injection, coupled to a nine-speed automatic that sends thrust to all four wheels.

If the Avenir is how Buick’s future looks, the future looks very bright.  Not the state of the current Buick models is anything to sneeze at! Visit Gjovik Auto in Sandwich and see for yourself.

GM Engineer Discovers Diapers Can Help Warm Your Car Faster

If you ever heard Mom say, “Waste not; want not,” the chances you rolled your eyes or had a similar response are pretty large. However, General Motors’ Vehicle Thermal Systems engineer, Nicholas Jahn, must have taken the saying to heart because, the next thing we know, diapers are helping to warm your car faster, and all thanks to Jahn.

Snow, when it gets packed into the inlet at the bottom of the windshield, can block the flow of air to and from the vehicle. This makes heating the cabin less efficient and leaves you in the cold for longer than necessary.

In order to combat snow’s effects and improve the efficiency of the car’s heater, Jahn needed to conduct tests. He wanted a substance that would behave like snow in order to make testing more feasible – otherwise he would have to wait for it to actually snow or find an open time slot to conduct tests in GM’s climatic wind tunnels.

So, Jahn decided not to waste the observations he made as his daughter swam in her diapers.

When wet, her diapers expanded. Not exactly a shocking revelation, but upon further research, Jahn found the diapers were partially made of a substance called sodium polyacrylate that behaves like snow when saturated. Conveniently, the sodium polyacrylate can be used in testing at any location and is reusable.

Now that Jahn and his team have been able to improve testing procedures, they’ve also been able to develop a more efficient heating system in vehicles like the Chevy Cruze.

“The last thing anyone wants to do when it’s freezing cold out is scrape their windshield,” Jahn said. “The testing we perform on the Chevrolet Cruze with the diaper material allows us to maximize the car’s heating capabilities.”

So yes, waste not; want not; and stay warm. We at Gjovik Auto guess Mom was right after all.
