How does Edmunds.com choose the winners?

Apparently, Edmunds.com has a lot of time on their hands.

Edmunds.com recently tested 200 cars to find the Top Rated Vehicles being sold today.  Using their standardized road-test loop and test track, the cars are subjected to controlled conditions and each vehicle is assessed against its rivals.  Once the rankings are decided, a grade is assigned in relation to other vehicles in its class and price range.  The cars that perform the best are given an “A” rating and awarded the Top Rated Vehicle Award.

Another honor – the Most Popular Award – is related to the number of unique visitors that visit the model’s pages and reviews at Edmunds.com. The three models in each segment with the most number of distinct visitors win the Most Popular Award.

Chevrolet Donates $1 Million to the American Cancer Society

Chevrolet“Having cancer is hard. Finding help shouldn’t be. Thanks in part to Chevy’s $1 million gift, the American Cancer Society will continue to care for people fighting cancer by connecting them with the information, day-to-day help and the emotional support they need to help them focus on getting well.”

Lin Mac Master, the American Cancer Society’s chief revenue marketing and communications officer, expressed his gratitude for Chevrolet’s Purple Roads initiative and the resulting donation.

Chevy’s generous donation was made possible through the participation of supporters who “purpled” their Facebook and Twitter profiles for World Cancer Day on Feb. 4.

Were you one of over 1 million supporters?

Chevrolet donated $1 dollar for every purple profile up to $1 million to support the American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program. The program provides transportation to cancer patients who otherwise wouldn’t have a ride to and from treatment.

Though World Cancer Day has passed, we at Gjovik Auto are proud of the continued support cancer patients will receive as they journey on the road to recovery.

Chevy Camaro Pivotal Tool in Helping U-2 Spy Plane Land

Chevy Camaro

What happens when you have a pilot in a space suit try to land a plane that has only two sets of landing gear? The result: you need a really fast car to guide the pilot down safely.

The Lockheed U-2 spy plane is one of the most unique airplanes ever created. Its mission is to gather information. To do this safely, the U-2 flies at extremely high altitudes—70,000 feet—essentially in space. In order for a plane to reach this altitude, it has to be as lightweight as possible and when Lockheed was designing the plane, it surprisingly cut out a set of landing gear to save weight.

Scott Evans from Motor Trend recently got to ride in one of the Chevrolet Camaro chase cars that help the U-2 land and shared his experience in a recent article.

To help the U-2 pilot down, the Camaro driver has to literally drive just yards behind the rapidly descending plane and tell the pilot how far off the ground he is. When the plane reaches 2 feet above the ground, the pilot can finally touch the ground and land the plane. He then has to balance the plane on the two sets of landing gear until coming to a complete stop.

Chevrolet to Add Siri Eyes Free to Six Vehicles in 2014

Siri Eyes Free
Siri Eyes Free is coming to six additional Chevy models

Chevy has announced that six of its 2014 model-year vehicles will feature Siri Eyes Free integration, bringing everyone’s favorite pocket-sized personal assistant with drivers onto the road as part of Apple’s continued rollout.

Chevrolet’s 2014 versions of the Camaro, Cruze, Equinox, Malibu, SS, and Volt will all feature Siri Eyes Free as part of the MyLink infotainment system.  Siri Eyes Free mode connects to MyLink through Bluetooth , allowing for those using iOS6 or iOS7 Apple devices to interact with the voice activation button found on the vehicle’s steering wheel.

This interaction allows drivers to access their calendars, playlists, contacts, and messages without ever having to take their eyes off of the road.  Drivers can also make calls, hear the content of texts read back to them in Siri’s dulcet tones, and compose messages of their own.  Siri Eyes Free was previously, and successfully, integrated into Chevrolet’s Spark and Sonic vehicles.

“The response to Siri Eyes Free integration in Chevy Sonic and Spark from our customers has been remarkable,” said Chris Perry, Chevrolet vice president of U.S. Marketing, in a statement. “Easy, reliable and portable connectivity is a top priority for our customers, and Siri complements MyLink’s existing capabilities to help deliver an incredible driving experience, so we’re excited to expand this to even more customers.”

Of course, this also means you can now amuse your friends on the road by asking Siri silly questions and chuckling as she casually offers to tell you where the best places to hide a body.  For more information on Siri Eyes Free and Chevrolet’s 2014 lineup, come see us at Gjovik today!

Celebrating 50 Years of the Chevy Malibu

Fifty years ago, nobody had heard of the Chevy Malibu. Then, one day in 1964, Chevy introduced the car as the Chevelle Malibu. This car was the top-of-the-line trim for the well-loved Chevelle. Quickly, it gained popularity, and eventually went on to completely replace the Chevelle in 1978. Since then, the Chevy Malibu has come to represent value, style, and reliability, and the 2014 Malibu is the embodiment of all that and more. This year, we’re happy to celebrate 50 years of the Chevy Malibu.

The 2014 Malibu has been given a slight makeover from its 2013 counterpart. Although it’s not a complete overhaul, there are some significant changes that make the 2014 stand out from its predecessor. A new Text-to-Voice feature allows the car’s infotainment system to read text messages over the audio system, and allows the driver to respond via MyLink, without ever taking his or her hands off the wheel. The 2014 Malibu also boasts a standard 2.5-liter EcoTec engine with stop/start technology—a first for this segment.

So whether you remember the original 1964 Malibu or not, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate 50 years of the Chevy Malibu. Stop by Gjovik and see the latest model in person!

2014 Chevrolet Impala: Best Full-Size Sedan

Looking for a full-size sedan for your family? The sheer number of sedans available out there can be overwhelming, making it difficult to know which one is best for your needs. Luckily, the experts at Cars.com decided to make it easier with the $38,000 Full-Size Sedan Challenge. The automotive website took seven popular full-size sedans, and pitted them against each other in an attempt to see just which one ruled the segment.

The seven cars competing for the title of best full-size sedan included the all-new 2014 Chevy Impala, 2014 Ford Taurus, 2013 Dodge Charger, 2013 Chrysler 300, 2013 Toyota Avalon, 2013 Nissan Maxima, and 2013 Hyundai Azera. Each car was tested by three experts from Cars.com, one automotive editor at USA Today, a producer from “MotorWeek,” and a coffee shop owner from Illinois who would typically purchase this type of car. Tests included a 200-mile road trip to test fuel economy, and back-to-back testing by each member of the panel to compare braking, handling, ride comfort, and more. And guess which car came out on top? The 2014 Chevrolet Impala, of course!

The panel loved the Impala’s brand spanking new looks—both inside and out. The experts also praised the Impala’s ride comfort, ease of driving, plentiful cargo space, and interior features that appeal to families and individuals alike.

Stop by Gjovik’s to see the 2014 Chevy Impala in person. We’re certain you’ll agree that it’s the best full-size sedan money can buy!

Diesel Power: Colorado and Canyon to Get Diesel Engines

If you’ve noticed a great deal of hype lately about diesel engines, you’re not the only one. With Chevy releasing a diesel version of its Cruze sedan, it seems that the old stigma about noisy, expensive, smelly diesel engines is a thing of the past. Today’s diesel engines are much cleaner, and offer excellent fuel economy to drivers who are continuing to demand more eco- and wallet-friendly vehicles. And GM is continuing to embrace this trend by offering diesel-powered versions of its upcoming Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize pickup trucks.

According to insiders, GM plans to launch the trucks with a version of either its 2.5-liter or 2.8-liter Duramax turbo diesel engine. These engines are already fitted in the current Colorado, which has taken a one-year hiatus from the U.S., and will return as a redesigned 2014 model, along with its GMC Canyon counterpart. However, the diesel engines likely won’t be available until 2015. This gives GM time to reintroduce its smaller pickup trucks to the market before launching a version offering alternative fuel.

Gjovik Auto looks forward to the return of the Colorado and Canyon. If you’re interesting in switching to a diesel-powered car, check out the diesel versions of the Chevy Cruze and Silverado, as well as the GMC Sierra, available now at our Sandwich, Illinois GM dealer.

Sierra and Silverado: Pickup Trucks with Five-Star Safety Ratings

Cars and minivans typically come equipped with a plethora of safety features designed to keep your family snug and secure. But we often assume trucks are built with one purpose: to get you and all your equipment to work, whether you work on a horse farm, in construction, or mowing grass. Certain trucks, though, are designed with your entire family in mind, providing the very best safety features available. The 2014 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra are the first pickup trucks with five-star safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) since the organization changed its testing program back in 2010/2011.

The Silverado and Sierra are both built using high-tensile steel, and offer fully boxed frames. As two incredible pickup trucks with five-star safety ratings, they offer features like Lane Departure Warning, Safety Alert Seat, and Forward Collision Warning. Other safety features include a rear vision camera, seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock disc brakes, and trailer-sway control. And for the safety of you and your passengers, both trucks some with six standard airbags.

If you require the very best safety features around, and long to own a full-size pickup, there are only two choices for you. You can find both the 2014 Chevy Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra at Gjovik Auto, so stop by and see them for yourself!

Chevy Sonic RS: Power and Efficiency Combined

Chevy Sonic RS
Chevy Sonic RS

When you think of the Chevy Sonic, you probably think of a cheap and cheerful subcompact car with a low starting price and modest standard features. But the Sonic is so much more than that. If you’re the type of driver that wants a little extra oomph in your engine, but you don’t want to upsize to a larger vehicle, the 2013 Chevy Sonic RS could be the answer to your prayers.

Officially, RS stands for Rally Sport. We think it could stand for “really speedy.” That’s because the Sonic RS comes with a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine that can gets an EPA estimated 29 mpg city and 40 mpg highway, and generates 138 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft of torque. That might not sound like much, but the RS trim adds an additional 23 lb.-ft of torque to the base LS trim, and since this car is so light, that’s some serious pickup. The Chevy Sonic RS is available as a hatchback, and comes with heated leatherette seats, cruise control, and Chevy’s MyLink infotainment system.

So if you’re looking for a cheap-fun-to-drive car that won’t have you paying through the nose at the pump, the Chevy Sonic RS is definitely worth a look. Stop by Gjovik Auto to check it out in person!
