Chevy Sonic RS: Power and Efficiency Combined

When you think of the Chevy Sonic, you probably think of a cheap and cheerful subcompact car with a low starting price and modest standard features. But the Sonic is so much more than that. If you’re the type of driver that wants a little extra oomph in your engine, but you don’t want to upsize to a larger vehicle, the 2013 Chevy Sonic RS could be the answer to your prayers.

Officially, RS stands for Rally Sport. We think it could stand for “really speedy.” That’s because the Sonic RS comes with a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine that can gets an EPA estimated 29 mpg city and 40 mpg highway, and generates 138 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft of torque. That might not sound like much, but the RS trim adds an additional 23 lb.-ft of torque to the base LS trim, and since this car is so light, that’s some serious pickup. The Chevy Sonic RS is available as a hatchback, and comes with heated leatherette seats, cruise control, and Chevy’s MyLink infotainment system.

So if you’re looking for a cheap-fun-to-drive car that won’t have you paying through the nose at the pump, the Chevy Sonic RS is definitely worth a look. Stop by Gjovik Auto to check it out in person!

#Heatstroke is No Joke: GM Donates $200,000 to Heatstroke Awareness

Heatstroke awareness
GM is dedicated to raising heatstroke awareness.

If you’re a sensible human being, you probably know that leaving a child or pet in your car on a scorching summer day is a no-no. Yet, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 37 children have lost their lives on average every year since 1998 after being left unattended in a hot vehicle. With temperatures inside a car much higher than outside, leaving your kid—two- or four-legged—in your vehicle when it’s hot out can become deadly in a matter of minutes.

Just how deadly is pretty clear. On a nice, comfortable, 75-degree day, your car can reach 100 degrees in just 20 minutes. Imagine how much worse that gets as the outside temperature rises. As we move through the summer months, organizations across the country are attempting to raise heatstroke awareness in order to save lives and really make people think. To help with this effort, GM is donating $200,000 to Safe Kids Worldwide to support the Never Leave Your Child in a Car campaign.

With GM’s donation and cooperation, Safe Kids Worldwide was able to spread its message across social media channels on National Heatstroke Prevention Day, July 31st. GM fans were encouraged to use the hashtag #heatstroke to help keep the conversation going. And even though National Heatstroke Prevention Day is over, Gjovik Auto encourages its readers to spread the word, either online or in person. Let’s aim for a 2014 where no such preventable deaths occur.

2014 Chevy Impala: So Quiet, You Can Record Music In It

If your eardrums have had enough of being blasted by an overly-noisy car, perhaps it’s time you considered switching to a vehicle with a little less engine noise, and a little more soundproofing. Enter the 2014 Chevy Impala; a car so quiet, a blues-rock band in Detroit used one as a recording studio for their latest track.

Thanks to the same Active Noise Cancellation technology you find in high-end headphones, the 2014 Chevy Impala’s interior remains strong and silent. It was for this reason that The Gentlemen Mutineers chose the sedan as the best place to record a song. The Impala was parked in one of the noisiest areas of Detroit—right by the Tigers stadium on a game day, with the inevitable construction that plagues the Michigan summer, and a live concert going on just down the street. Yet none of these background noises made it onto the track, which was recorded on a laptop by Mark Pastoria from Harmonie Park Studios.

Other factors that combine to make the 2014 Chevy Impala the peaceful haven it is include sound-absorbing carpet, acoustic foam, triple-sealed doors, liquid-applied sound deadener, and acoustically laminated glass.
