Next-Generation GMC Terrain Introduces Push-Button Shifter

Next-Generation GMC Terrain
The push-button gear shifter in the next-generation GMC Terrain is said to be “intuitive,” with “infrequent and minor” mistakes.

The manual transmission versus automatic transmission debate has been ongoing since the invention of the automatic. Fans of manual transmissions like the way they have more control over their vehicle, allowing them to get better gas mileage and get the most out of the performance of their car. This has lead to various automakers attempting to recreate the gear-shifting dynamic of a manual while creating more space and being more safe and convenient. The next-generation GMC Terrain seems to have solved this dilemma.

The new 2018 GMC Terrain will feature push-button gear shifters. Called the Electronic Precision Shifter, the system consists of three buttons and two switches located below the audio system. The new shifter is the only one available on the GMC Terrain, but it is offered on all three engine options – two gasoline and one diesel. GMC representatives are eager to see how the experimental shifter functions in the real world, rather than just on the test tracks.

The push-button gear shifter in the next-generation GMC Terrain is said to be “intuitive,” with “infrequent and minor” mistakes, according to IHS Markit senior analyst Stephanie Brinley.

At Gjovik Chevy Buick GMC, we are thrilled to see GMC taking the lead on this project!

GM Engineer Discovers Diapers Can Help Warm Your Car Faster

If you ever heard Mom say, “Waste not; want not,” the chances you rolled your eyes or had a similar response are pretty large. However, General Motors’ Vehicle Thermal Systems engineer, Nicholas Jahn, must have taken the saying to heart because, the next thing we know, diapers are helping to warm your car faster, and all thanks to Jahn.

Snow, when it gets packed into the inlet at the bottom of the windshield, can block the flow of air to and from the vehicle. This makes heating the cabin less efficient and leaves you in the cold for longer than necessary.

In order to combat snow’s effects and improve the efficiency of the car’s heater, Jahn needed to conduct tests. He wanted a substance that would behave like snow in order to make testing more feasible – otherwise he would have to wait for it to actually snow or find an open time slot to conduct tests in GM’s climatic wind tunnels.

So, Jahn decided not to waste the observations he made as his daughter swam in her diapers.

When wet, her diapers expanded. Not exactly a shocking revelation, but upon further research, Jahn found the diapers were partially made of a substance called sodium polyacrylate that behaves like snow when saturated. Conveniently, the sodium polyacrylate can be used in testing at any location and is reusable.

Now that Jahn and his team have been able to improve testing procedures, they’ve also been able to develop a more efficient heating system in vehicles like the Chevy Cruze.

“The last thing anyone wants to do when it’s freezing cold out is scrape their windshield,” Jahn said. “The testing we perform on the Chevrolet Cruze with the diaper material allows us to maximize the car’s heating capabilities.”

So yes, waste not; want not; and stay warm. We at Gjovik Auto guess Mom was right after all.

Buick IntelliLink Infotainment is a System That Won’t Freeze

Car touchscreens are responsible for more and more tasks nowadays, the least of which include playing music files, planning navigation routes, adjusting climate control, placing calls, and more.

Making the onboard computer handle all this is difficult enough, but at Gjovik Auto, what we’ve found is that the hardest part is making all of these tasks available to owners in a way that is intuitive and, especially, reliable to use.

“Car shoppers expect their in-car infotainment systems to offer not only a full range of convenience features but also complete dependability and functionally,” said Karl Brauer, senior editor of Kelley Blue Book. “That means a rapid response to user inputs and hardware components that consistently withstand consumer demands.”

To meet those demands, the Buick IntelliLink infotainment system is subjected to exhaustive testing inside and outside the car. A special stability lab can simulate 210 days of continuous in-car use within a week, during which the IntelliLink system will receive the equivalent of more than 2 million touchscreen pushes! Now that’s reliability!

Next-Gen Chevy Volt Charging Will be more Convenient Than Ever

Next-Gen Chevy Volt ChargingThe Chevy Volt has been lauded by owners for its accessibility to easy charging. In fact, the US Department of Energy reports that upwards of 80% of all trips by those driving Chevy Volts did not use the range extender.

The next-gen Chevy Volt charging system has been modified to allow for easier verification of the charge status as well easier charging overall. The 2016 model of the Volt is slated to debut in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Improvements Coming for Next-Gen Chevy Volt Charging

Chevy has improved the Volt based on real-world customers and their testimonials. One of the new features is GPS location-based charging. It allows drivers to set a charging preference for their “home” charging location. The vehicle automatically adjusts to the correct settings when it arrives at that location. This feature also allows owners to set their Volts to the local utility rate schedule so they always charge when electricity is the cheapest.

The charge indicators have also been redesigned. The Volt now emits a specially designed tone to indicate when it has started to charge and an additional tone to signify that charging is delayed.

Chevrolet has also extended the length of the charging chord to nearly 25 ft long. At Gjovik Auto, we are glad to represent a brand that takes such care to listen to the consumer, and can assure you that we operate with the same consideration.

Try Not to Stare: Chevy Unveils Conceptual Chaparral 2X Vision GT

Here at Gjovik Auto, we couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw Chevy’s all-new Chaparral 2X Vision GT. The new model is certainly not for the faint of heart, featuring an incredibly futuristic design. Designed for the video game series Gran Turismo, Chevy actually took the liberty of building a model and showcasing it at the LA Auto Show.

Chaparral 2X Vision GT Concept

According to the BBC, the model has 900 horsepower—in theory. The Chaparral 2X Vision GT is essentially conceptual, and, in theory, is driven by a laser-powered lithium ion battery system. Supposedly, this concept has been drawn from aircraft design, but once again, still only exists on a computer screen.

“The Chaparral 2X VGT is a vision of how advanced technology may shape the look and driving experience of racing,” explains Chevy. “Chaparral’s race cars and methods were seen as outlandish four decades ago. The 2X VGT concept might just be a harbinger of motorsports in the next four decades.”

So who cares about a conceptual design, right? While it’s true you won’t be seeing this model on the highway anytime soon, it does provide a foundation for the future of auto design. By thinking outside of the box, automakers like Chevy are paving the way for vehicles that are faster and more efficient than ever before.

Until then, we will have to settle for the amped-up 2015 Chevrolet Camaro with its 426 horspower.  Visit Gjovik Auto in Sandwich, IL and take a Camaro out for a test drive!

Buick Adds Rearview Camera as Standard Feature for 2015 Models

Rearview CameraBuick is staying ahead of the curve by installing a rearview camera in each of its 2015 models. That’s right; every single 2015 model will come with the increasingly important technology as a standard feature.

Customers no longer have to pay extra for a feature the automaker realizes most, if not all, of its consumers will want.

“We know our customers are very safety conscious,” said Duncan Aldred, U.S. VP of Buick and GMC. “The current Buick lineup holds many safety accolades, but we are always pushing to be at the forefront with our vehicles being among the safest available.”

In addition to the rearview camera, all 2015 vehicles will also provide owners with a subscription to OnStar Automatic Crash Response, complimentary for the first six months. Advanced safety technologies like Forward Collision Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert can be added as well.

As a result of the priority given to safety, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has already awarded Buick’s entire 2015 lineup with a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for safety.

We at Gjovik Auto, however, aren’t surprised. Excellence is at the core of the Buick brand. See for yourself; check out our current 2015 inventory today.

Chevrolet to Add Siri Eyes Free to Six Vehicles in 2014

Siri Eyes Free
Siri Eyes Free is coming to six additional Chevy models

Chevy has announced that six of its 2014 model-year vehicles will feature Siri Eyes Free integration, bringing everyone’s favorite pocket-sized personal assistant with drivers onto the road as part of Apple’s continued rollout.

Chevrolet’s 2014 versions of the Camaro, Cruze, Equinox, Malibu, SS, and Volt will all feature Siri Eyes Free as part of the MyLink infotainment system.  Siri Eyes Free mode connects to MyLink through Bluetooth , allowing for those using iOS6 or iOS7 Apple devices to interact with the voice activation button found on the vehicle’s steering wheel.

This interaction allows drivers to access their calendars, playlists, contacts, and messages without ever having to take their eyes off of the road.  Drivers can also make calls, hear the content of texts read back to them in Siri’s dulcet tones, and compose messages of their own.  Siri Eyes Free was previously, and successfully, integrated into Chevrolet’s Spark and Sonic vehicles.

“The response to Siri Eyes Free integration in Chevy Sonic and Spark from our customers has been remarkable,” said Chris Perry, Chevrolet vice president of U.S. Marketing, in a statement. “Easy, reliable and portable connectivity is a top priority for our customers, and Siri complements MyLink’s existing capabilities to help deliver an incredible driving experience, so we’re excited to expand this to even more customers.”

Of course, this also means you can now amuse your friends on the road by asking Siri silly questions and chuckling as she casually offers to tell you where the best places to hide a body.  For more information on Siri Eyes Free and Chevrolet’s 2014 lineup, come see us at Gjovik today!
